A Bush Birthday

Title: A Bush Birthday
Author: Eleanor Nilsson
Illustrator: Kerry Argent
Publisher: Omnibus Books
ISBN: 9781862910935

Nathalie’s Review (at age 8)

This is a rhyming book set in the Australian bush and featuring many Australian animals.  Koala is having a birthday and many animals have been invited.  But no one wants to take Echidna because she is very prickly.  But finally Wombat walks with her.  They all brought presents, like honey from a hollow tree, a quill and other things they found in the bush.

This is a very easy book to read, but I still learnt something from it.  I learnt what a greater bilby was.  Do you know?  🙂

One Woolly Wombat

Daniel’s Review (at age 4)

This is a counting book.  I counted koalas and emus and platypuses.  I liked the picture of the goannas because they look like crocodiles.  I also liked the flying kookaburras.

Mummy Angie’s Review

This is a simple rhyming counting book which features various Australian animals.  The illustrations are detailed and eye-catching and feature animals doing funny things like dingoes playing the yo-yo and cockatoos counting.  We bought this while on holiday in Australia and was pleasantly surprised to find it was autographed.  🙂  Ah … life’s simple joys.

Possum Magic

Title: Possum Magic
Author: Mem Fox
Illustrator: Julie Vivas
Publisher: Voyager Books
ISBN: 9780152632243

Nathalie’s Review (at age 8)

In Australia there lived two possums.  Their names were Hush and Grandma Poss. Grandma Poss could do magic, and the best magic she could do was to make Hush invisible. She was safe that way, but the only problem was that Grandma Poss didn’t know how to make her visible again. Grandma Poss and Hush travelled around Australia and ate different kinds of Australian food, and finally, because of the food, she was visible again!

These illustrations are very cute, as you can see from the cover of the book. This has to be one of my favorite books.
